21 year old student from Cameroon has just become the first African student in China to have contracted the novel Corona virus. A letter published by his university on February 2, Yangtze University announced to the Cameroonian community and International student body that Kem Senor Pavel Dany, had developed a fever, cough, limb weakness, diarrhoea, and other Corona virus symptoms and was admitted to Jingzhou Chest Hospital on January 28 where two days later he was diagnosed with the Corona virus. He had been under quarantine at home having returned from a visit to the Corona virus epicentre, Wuhan on January 19. The letter stated that Kem was responsive and his vitals were stable as well as his body temperature.
This report comes amid fears that the disease might soon be in Africa with the increased number of Africans returning home since corona virus infections started getting higher by day. Most African countries have stated their preparedness for the virus with ports of entries having started conducting screenings. However, their screenings have been criticised as some officials have been seen not wearing protective clothing at airports.
Botswana last week reported its first suspected case of corona virus and the diagnosis has not yet been released.
