Cricket is one of the most beautiful sport there is. It is a sport that has been growing steadfastly around the world.
International Cricket Council is the board in charge of the sport. The ICC has been working hard to try to make the sport great around the world.
Among the ICC members are the Asian Cricket Council member countries. There are about 21 members in the Asian Cricket Council(ACC). ACC was formed on the 19th of September 1983 in New Delhi. It's objectives were to organise, develop and promote the game of cricket in Asia. The ACC was initially created by six members and membership has increased to 21 over the years. One of the eye-catching member of the ACC is the Chinese Cricket Association.
As big as China is and being a member of ICC, why is it's name hardly mentioned in cricket circles?China is a country that takes sports seriously. Physical education is a priority even in school curriculum. One would hope that a number of sportspeople would emerge in various sporting disciplines and make a mark in the world. Cricket being one of them.
Does China have professional cricket? Yes, it has.It is believed China has more than 80,000 registered cricketers. In 2008 China went into a massive scouting programme to build both the men and women national teams ahead of Asian games which were to be held in Guangzhou 2010. The men team did not perform quite well in these games as they were bowled out at 28 runs by Pakistan. It is the second lowest of all time.
On the other hand, the women have great potential basing on their performance in Guangzhou in 2010.
The ICC has been making initiatives in developing the sport in China. According to South China Morning Post, the ICC is in agreement with the Asian Cricket Council to prioritise cricket development in China.
The inclusion of the sport into the Olympics is crucial to the future of the sport in China. Currently cricket is not an Olympic game and it has greatly affected its popularity around the world.
John Cribbing who is the Chairman of Cricket Hong Kong was quoted saying that the olympics is the key to ensuring the Chinese government pays more attention to the development of cricket.
Despite this challenge, the cricket world is determined to continue pushing in China. In 2016 Australia Women Cricket national team captain Meg Lanning visited China to try to motivate and share her expertise with the female cricketers in China. She did training with the Chinese Women national team and also held cricket clinics for Chinese students particularly the females. Australia's women national team is currently number 1 in the world, followed by England.
China women's cricket has everything pointing upwards. It has such a huge pool of determined cricketers to choose from.
Just recently in the first week of June, different universities gathered at Tsinghua University for the 2018 Capital University league competition.
It was a two day competition which saw men competing on the first day and women on the second day. This competition was recognized by China Cricket Association which was one of the main sponsors of the event.
Looking at the women's competition in particular, it was one of passion and determination.
The young women exhibited great skills and love for the game.Surely looking at these ladies, the future of cricket in China is bright.
Despite the early morning rain showers, the determined young ladies were not going to let anything stop them from enjoying their love, Cricket.
As time went into noon, Beijing turned into hell as the heat was just unbearable. The ladies stood fast for what they enjoy-Cricket.
Even water couldn't save much on the cooling part but as a fuel in the scorching heat.
Team work is what sportsmanship is about. No matter the circumstances you always come together and make it work.
Sometimes the pain gets to us but we stand firm as we know it is pain that makes us strong.
In the hands of those who see greatness in us and push us to do more, all hope is restored.
Coaching "You're really not going to be good at it if you don't love the kids."
In the presence of those who love us and applaud even our little achievements, life is beautiful. Family and friends support is everything in sport.
What are friends and family for if not to help us get back on our feet when we fall.
As a team great things are achieved. Even a shared smile or moment is equally precious.
Sports are for happiness and shared laughter.
When we start them young, the sky is the limit.
We can't complete the sports story without those who make sure the game is played accordingly.
Everyone can do with a little motivation.
A reminder of a dream to be pursued.
Celebration of hard-work.
Those who braced the heat to support the their own.
And those who also couldn't be left out in showing off some skills..
Looking forward to the best of China cricket in the near future.
