Rozette Success Pajibo (BIGC Student)
I have never seen my campus this quiet as it is now. Corona- virus has silenced everything. Some students have fled to their home country while others are still in China with hope and belief that this will soon be history. Recently we have started online classes which to me is the best option considering the situation even though it comes with its own challenges.
My university (Beijing Institute of Graphic Communication) has been very helpful to us in this critical time. Their encouragement, support and hard work is keeping us safe and secure. Many of the authorities are still on duty making sure that we are safe. They check our temperatures everyday to insure that every student's health is fine. They take us to banks if need be and make sure our campus supermarket is stocked with food and other necessities.
At first, the students were complaining because the university decided to locked the gate, but we soon realized that it was for our benefit. Staying indoors everyday is hard but necessary to be safe.
To me, this is not strange because I am from Liberia and we faced similar situation like this during Ebola virus for almost a year. This virus killed many Liberians and people around the world. Universities and other institutions closed to stop the virus from spreading. The Liberians and other countries fought this disease and won.
China will smile again. Personally, I feel that all the measures taken by my university and the various Chinese authorities are in the best interest to safe guard all international students, foreign employees and loving people of China in general.
I will like to use this piece to encourage everyone not to panic but exercise patience and all preventive routines as we fight this epidemic. I believe that China will conquer this disease as they and all international partners exerts all efforts in making this land glorious and happy one more time.
