Happy Women's Day and and shine own ladies.
Award-winning Zimbabwean musician and daughter to the late musical legend Oliver Mtukudzi took to social media to honour her mother this Women's Day. Selmor Mtukudzi honoured her mother, Melody Murape by describing her as her pillar of strength.
Melody Murape was the first wife of the late Oliver Mtukudzi and they had two daughters together. They got married in 1979 and divorced in 1993. Oliver Mtukudzi died on the 23rd of January 2019.
Accompanied by her photo with her mother Selmor wrote;
"Having gone through her dirvoce and losing both her parents and her siblings, my mom was left with the difficult task to take care of all of us her children plus her nieces and nephews. She started selling vegetables pamusika but for some reason zvavo zvaisatengwa. She even went into the avenues knocking on doors muma flats asking to do washing and cleaning houses for people.
I remember she should would come home with blisters on her knees from kneeling down wiping people's houses. That also did not last long. Despite not having much education, my mom then got a job at Standard Chartered Bank to capture data. She was a fast learner and was very good with hands she quickly became both bosses and colleagues' favourite.
'Mai Mtukudzi' they would call her. Our lives changed for the better after that. Through all these difficult times, we never went to bed hungry. My mother made sure we were fed. Now she is happily retired and I pray that God blesses me enough to repay her well enough some day. Happy Women's Month."
