China is aiming that in 3-5 years time to have a civilized society in rural areas. Outdated practices and customs will be effectively controlled.
According to a report in local media, Han Jun, vice minister of Agriculture and Rural Affairs said that in addition to economic development in rural areas, improving civilisation was also an essential part of central government's rural rejuvenation strategy.
They noted that because of these customs and practices, some men are failing to get married because of expectations of big weddings and fear of being humiliated. Also practices of matchmaking were scrutinised as matchmakers made huge money by lying to both the man and woman's families and exaggerating their attributes.
