According to the Ministry of Health, one case of Covid-19 has been recorded in Harare Zimbabwe bringing the number of confirmed cases to two within 24 hours. According to the statement, the case was registered at the National Microbiology Laboratory at Sally Mugabe Central Hospital.
The patient is a 30-year-old male resident of Harare who traveled to New York City, United States of America on the 29th February 2020 and returned on the 9th of March 2020 via Johannesburg South Africa. It is reported that he started showing mild signs of flu-like illness on the 12th and progressively got worse on the 19th March 2020. He consulted a doctor who advised him to self-quarantine at home. The doctor alerted the local Covid-19 Rapid Response Team that immediately went to assess him and recommended that he continues with self-isolation at home. Specimens were collected for testing.
Yesterday he developed severe respiratory distress and after stabilisation at home, was admitted for isolation and clinical management at Wilkins Hospital. Results from his specimen came out positive for Covid-19 the morning of 21 March 2020. Contact tracing is now under way being assisted by the patient himself.
People have been called to remain calm and take apply measures as emphasised by relevant authority.
